Patio Season Is Officially Upon Us! Here’s What You’ll Need.

1. Come up with a patio purpose.

What do you want to get out of your patio this year? Do you envision a cozy personal retreat or an entertainment space? Think about how you want to use your backyard and put your plans on paper—creating a blueprint, if you will.

Take, for example, this plush patio set-up. When Decorating Den’s designers sat down with the client, they had one purpose in mind: entertainment. From there, the choices were easy: an expansive pool, plenty of seating for guests, and large spaces divided into smaller “rooms” for entertaining.

2. Choose your focal point.

If you’re having trouble coming up with a design theme or deciding how you’ll use your patio, pick a focal point and let the creative ideas flow from there. Think of it as the heart of your outdoor space. Perhaps it’s a bird bath, potted plant, fire pit or an outdoor kitchen and bar. Choosing one beautiful statement piece might be all you need to get the creative juices flowing.

The focal point and purpose of this backyard is clearly the pool! Situated at the heart of the design, furniture is arranged to radiate out from the pool and reflects its cerulean waters with sky blue accents.

3. Consider your furniture options.

Though your patio is like an extension of your home, it’s important to remember that, unlike the other rooms in your house, this space is constantly exposed to the elements! When picking out your furniture, consider what is hardy enough to stand the test of time.

For this patio, Decorating Den chose furniture in outdoor woven wicker that will stand up agains the sun’s harsh rays. Cushions are covered in performance outdoor fabrics in shades of taupe that match the stone and stucco of the home’s exterior, accented with neutral but eye-catching blues and grays.

If you want a second opinion on any of your ideas, just contact us! We will come to your home for a free consultation to evaluate your patio space and design ideas and offer some tips and tricks to create your backyard oasis with ease.
